The Most Indulgent Events At Gourmet Escape 2018
It is the region’s largest and most revered food and wine showcase, and this year the Margaret River Gourmet Escape is back from November 16 to 18 with an even more indulgent event calendar than the last. Back for her second helping, Nigella Lawson joins the likes of celebrity chefs Rick and Jack Stein, Tetsuya Wakuda, Monica Galetti and other local chefs as they host a weekend of long lunches, lavish dinners and sunset beach parties.
With some 24 events already on the calendar for the weekend, there are plenty of decadent lunches, dinners and tastings to sink your teeth in to. If intimate and indulgent events are on the agenda for this year’s Gourmet Escape, look no further than these special one-off events.
Cape Mentelle International Cabernet Tasting and Long Lunch
Cape Mentelle’s annual cabernet tasting originated in back in 1982, and this year it is one of the feature events of Gourmet Escape.
In 2018, the Cape Mentelle International Cabernet Tasting and Long Lunch will take you on a journey through Margaret River and other prestigious wine regions around the world with a blind tasting of 20 different 2015 cabernets, and a perfectly paired long lunch. Expect to get your senses around some world-class cabernets from Tuscany, Bordeaux, Napa, Australia and further afield.
Taking place in the cabernet wine cellar at Cape Mentelle, the elaborate tasting will be facilitated by Sarah Ahmed – an English wine writer for The Wine Detective – and a panel of other expert commentators.
Following the tasting, guests will be guided to the lawns to enjoy a flute of Veuve Clicquot, before sitting down to a long lunch prepared by chef Kate Lamont. The menu will showcase the pristine produce found in the Margaret River region and will be expertly matched to the cabernets from the tasting.
Tickets to the epic 6-hour cabernet tasting are $650.00 (plus a booking fee) and include a take-home gift of the yet to be released Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon 2016.

Guy Grossi Aboard Ocean Dream

After recently opening his acclaimed Italian restaurant at The Westin in Perth, chef Guy Grossi is heading further south to bring a little bit of Positano’s ‘dining by the sea’ vibe to the 2018 Gourmet Escape. Accompanied by Mario Di Natale (head chef of Garum Perth), the duo will be serving up the best in Italian summer canapes along with wines sourced from the Margaret River region aboard the luxurious Ocean Dream catamaran.
This event provides guests a rare chance to step aboard the exclusive Ocean Dream catamaran, which spends the better portion of the year chartering guests through areas in the remote Kimberley region.
