Indulge In A Champagne Retreat On Lizard Island

Luxury getaway Lizard Island already has the reputation as an ultimate luxury destination and now it’s taken it one step further by partnering with prestige Champagne brand Dom Pérignon. The island, located within the Great barrier Reef has launched a new experience – the Dom Pérignon Retreat.

Located within a 1013-hectare national park Lizard Island offers 40 luxury rooms and suites set among one of the natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef. The island has 24 private beaches and takes a maximum of 82 guests, making it completely possible to take your own provided dinghy (yep, they give you one) and find your own corner of paradise with white sand, crystalline water and sea turtles swimming by.

Lizard Island is an all-inclusive resort so once you unpack, there’s no fuss about where to go or what to do. Everything you could want or need is at your fingertips, drinks, dining, beach activities, or just lie back and relax on your giant daybed overlooking the Coral Sea.

And if you thought all that sounded magical, it can get even better.  The Dom Pérignon experience will include two special designed experiences as well as a suite upgrade from the already luxurious rooms. Those elevating their stay with the extra lux experience can also expect custom made amenities from the famed Champagne house and a perfectly chilled bottle of Dom Pérignon 2009 on arrival.

The first experience is a voyage on the Dom Pérignon Reef Discovery and a private beach picnic. After suiting-up in custom branded wetsuit jackets, a private boat charter will lead guests on a snorkel tour of the world-renowned Great Barrier Reef to explore the island’s marine life.

Post the reef discovery, a chilled glass of Champagne will be poured while guests are transferred to an idyllic corner of the island, Sunset Beach, for a private picnic. While soaking up the serenity of the location, guests enjoy decadent lobster rolls and an array of seafoods perfectly paired with their drinks. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Secondly, a beachside ‘Dining Under the Stars’ experience where a small group of just two up to a limit of ten guests can enjoy their Champagne paired dinner under the spectacular starlit skies.  The multi-course dining experience includes the incredible P2 2000 vintage, paired with the islands freshest, locally sourced produce and seafood prepared by Lizard Island’s Executive Chef, Ryan Locke.

Additional gifts include custom branded silk pyjamas, scented candles and custom beach towels to enjoy at any of the island’s 24 private beaches. So many of them, you’ll likely have a private one at any given time.

“Lizard Island is the only place travelers can indulge in this unique experience of the Great Barrier Reef and we are proud to present it in partnership with Dom Pérignon, a world leader in luxury,” says Lizard Island Executive Director, Greg Magi.

Like all experience on the Island, guests can also enjoy the activities the island is famed for — relaxing and rejuvenating at Essentia Day Spa, nature walks and hiking, snorkelling, glass bottom kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, fine dining and more.

Lizard Island is accessible only by private charter from Cairns, guests arrive by private charter which can be booked with your stay. It’s incredible secluded, private and oh-so-luxe. The one-hour flight over blue waters and coral reefs is a spectacular experience itself.

Touching down on the runway, you’re met by welcome staff with fresh cool towels and golf buggy transport to take you to your check-in. Rooms are bright, sunny and spacious, with spectacular views. The Beachfront Suites are a stone’s throw from the ocean’s edge, where you can spend your days lounging, wading in tropical waters or simply taking in the surrounds.

All suites are private, quiet and feature a large living space with oversized lounge chairs, plus a master bedroom, a walk-in wet room, spacious bathroom and outdoor deck area. In keeping with the island’s philosophy of disconnecting from the stresses of daily life, Wi-Fi isn’t found in the rooms. It is, of course, available in the reception area as well as the fitness centre and day spa, and rooms are equipped with a docking station for your portable device so you can have music. Alternatively, allow the lapping of waves outside to provide the soundtrack to your holiday.

The Dom Pérignon Retreat can be booked through Lizard Island’s website and start from $1410 for two.
