Sydney’s Most Incredible Short Term Rental Homes
Tourism around the world is booming and with that, rental property offerings are widening. While Airbnb has long been leading the pack, more specialised services are now swooping in to join it. One such service is onefinestay.
Unlike Airbnb, onefinestay, which falls under the AccorHotel umbrella, concentrates solely on luxury properties and aims to provide a white-glove treatment with each. Think quality toiletries, designer linens and a local concierge on hand to make restaurant reservations or book theatre tickets. Homes were chosen for their character, space and comfort, and many were designed by award-winning architects.
Since launching locally in May, the global brand now has a dozen or so Sydney properties on its books and plans to hit Noosa at the end of this month and Melbourne in July. Among its Sydney listings, we’ve handpicked the finest.
Don’t be put off by the word cottage – this property is far from quaint. Mosman Cottage has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a sprawling garden. Located in the prestigious Sydney suburb of Mosman on the Lower North Shore, the home lets you enjoy a quiet neighbourhood life and, at only an eight-minute drive from the CBD, city life too.
Arriving at the cottage, you’ll be met with a gourmet gift basket and anything else you may have requested in advance. You’ll instantly feel at ease with the home’s eclectic yet cosy décor that includes red and green velvet lounges, shaggy rugs and wicker dining room chairs. In the morning, if you feel like an adventure, stroll to the nearby wharf to catch a ferry direct to Taronga Zoo or Manly.
Gardyn Home Bronte
With a beautiful landscaped backyard complete with palm trees, a lush lawn, lap pool and an outdoor dining set it’s a good thing Gardyn Home Bronte has floor-to-ceiling windows. You can watch the trees rustle in the wind, your friends or family splashing in the pool or one of Sydney’s spectacular sunsets all while cooking up a storm in the open-plan kitchen.
In addition to its tropical surroundings, the three-bedroom home, in the laid-back suburb of Bronte, also has large living room, a master bedroom with a terrace that looks out onto Bronte’s blues, and colourful artworks adorning the walls. If you manage to drag yourself away from it, you’ll find you’re minutes away from restaurants, cafes and Bronte’s family-friendly park.
South Coogee Castle
Fittingly named South Coogee Castle, this property has five bedrooms that can sleep up to 10 comfortably, a heated infinity pool, courtyard, rooftop terrace and entertainment room. Perched on a cliff a stone’s throw away from the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, the home offers sweeping views of the sea.
Renowned Sydney architect Renato D’Ettorre is behind its design. Though sleek and modern like others in the area, it’s also got a touch of grittiness with raw materials such as steel, natural timber and stone used throughout. Spend your days here watching waves crash from the airy living room and your evenings stargazing with a glass of vino on the rooftop.
Potts Point Terrace
Potts Point Terrace is city living at its finest. Despite being steps away from the busy streets of Potts Point and, a few more away from the CBD, the two-bedroom, two-level Victorian Terrace home is incredibly calming with neutral décor and furniture. Exposed brick and hand-carved sandstone will remind you of its urban location.
On its ground floor you’ll find a kitchen and a large lounge area with glass doors opening onto a plant-dotted patio. Downstairs is a softly-lit reading nook with a retro leather couch and nearby, its master and queen-sized bedroom. Other terraces, old art deco buildings and tree-lined streets can be found outside. Venture a little further away and you’ll be at Kings Cross.
Spending time on the Northern Beaches is relaxing in and of itself. Spending time in Avalon Bungalow may slow you down to the point that it’ll be a real struggle to start back at work. When you’re not using its 18m heated infinity edge pool or soaking in its stand-alone bathtub, you can doze off to the sound of waves from your bedroom or simply curl up on one of the many lounges.
And when you’ve had enough mellowing out, pack a beach bag and head out to Avalon Beach or nearby Palm Beach of Home And Away fame. For more of an excursion, Central Coast’s Ettalong Beach is a ferry ride away. This eight-bed home sleeps seven so either use it for a multi-family holiday or a friend group getaway.
